Wednesday 28th August - Midweek Excursion

Bird Photography, Nature Walk Historical Picnic lunch Wednesday 28th August 2019 Long Neck Lagoon & Scheyville National Park

Meeting place, Park in the parking area on Cattai Rd., adjacent to Long Neck Lagoon Time 08:00 early start for bird activity

Long Neck Lagoon is a small freshwater wetland with a walking track around it, where you may see a variety of water birds. There is also a field studies centre with information about the local fauna.

Scheyville National park was once a government training farm, a migrant hostel and then an army camp, before becoming a national park.

Where: Park in the parking area on Cattai Rd., adjacent to Long Neck Lagoon.

(A map will be sent to all who register.)

When: 8:00 a.m., Wednesday 28th August.

What to take: Cameras (obviously), binoculars if possible, water, sunscreen, hat. The path is fairly flat and easy going, but may be a bit damp if it has been raining. Also, bring the necessaries for a picnic lunch at Scheyville.

After we've walked around the lagoon, we'll drive a short distance to Scheyville National Park and have a look at the remaining buildings, before having a picnic lunch. There is also an historical photographic display inside the National Parks office. If anyone is interested, I can give an insider's story of its time as an army camp.
